Nakisha Carter an FRC Coordinator

Nakisha works with and cares deeply for the young people in Rockland County who are in need. They may be in need of food, clothes, a place to live, holiday gifts, medical needs, a hug – whatever it is, she does everything she can, at all hours of the day, to make it happen. So many young people and their families have gotten through this COVID experience SOLELY because of her intervention. When the world was shutting down, she was out even more, coordinating efforts among the county school districts, our transportation department, and other county services to identify and assist all who were in need of food. She managed the acquirement, packing and delivery of food to hundreds of families on a weekly basis. She not only made sure they were fed, but she made sure they knew they were cared for, were important enough to be helped and that they would be able to survive and get through this. She is selfless and unwavering in her calling to help these children and families. As a young mother herself, she has nurtured so many more children than her own son and is responsible for so many getting through this tough time.

What other characteristics has your Hero demonstrated to support this nomination?

Nakisha is tenacious, caring, organized, dutiful, nurturing, tireless, and so much more. She is a genuine, beautiful smart and funny strong woman as well. She is selfless and hardworking and so generous with her time, love, and own expenses.

Describe the impact of your Hero on a local, regional, national, and/or international level.

Nakisha was responsible for feeding hundreds of families, most with children with special needs who were especially burdened by the effects of COVID, coupled with the delicate and complex needs of their children who could not be cared for by just anyone. She ensured that these most vulnerable populations and their families were able to survive this horrible time while simultaneously making sure they knew they were not alone, were cared for and were/are/always will matter to this world.

Is there anything else about your Hero that you would like the committee to consider?

She was featured in our local paper for her efforts: www.lohud.com/

However, as beautiful as this write-up is, it still cannot begin to capture the true difference her actions, dedication to the community and sacrifice affected so many lives.
